Android MID SmartQ5 Coming This September In Japan

Another manufacturer bites the Android bullet.  SmartDevices released the the SmartQ5 several months ago with a Linux Ubuntu OS for a measly $132 USD. Now, the company is releasing the same product in an Android version in Japan this September. But when you convert 26,000¥, which is the pre-order price over at  GeekStuff4Y, you get $281 USD.  Considering the Android platform is free for manufacturers, it is not clear what could account for the large price bump.

This 4.3″ screen bad boy comes with a ARM11 667MHz Sumsung CPU, 1 GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, built in speakers, with a screen resolution of 800 x 480, but only has 1GB of Flash internal storage while supporting  SD/SDHC cards with a maximum capacity of 32GB.

The SmartQ5 has a similar CPU to the 7″ SmartQ7, another SmartDevices net tablet. But one thing which held the SmartQ7 back when it received mediocre reviews was its 128GB RAM and its touchscreen responsiveness. These two issues are hopefully fixed with the Q5 with the increased RAM and the Android, which was designed for touch devices, instead of the Linux Ubuntu.
